Students interested in applying to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) can do so through an online application. The following general requirements must be met in order to submit an online application:

  • Fulfill the program’s minimum academic requirements: Each program has its own arrangement of least scholarly prerequisites, for example, explicit secondary school grades or state sanctioned test scores.
    Give complete and accurate information: On the online application form, applicants must provide all required information, including personal information, academic history, and any requested supporting documents.
    Pay the fee for the application: The application fee, which varies depending on the program and whether the applicant is a South African citizen or an international student, must be paid by applicants.
    Provide supporting documentation: Applications may require additional documentation, such as portfolios of work, certificates, or transcripts, depending on the program. As required by the university, certified copies of these documents may be required.

The following is how Wits determines the grade for each subject:

  • You must learn English, whether it is your first or second language.
    All numerate programs in Math, Business, Law, Management, and Science, Engineering, and the Built Environment are required.

    When calculating the admission point score (APS), Wits does not differentiate between designated and undesignated subjects. The top seven subjects, including Life Orientation, are used to calculate the APS.
